Re: Kylo Ren Build Wilmington, NC new prospective member
Sounds like you're on track to make a good showing once you're approved. My Ren took me quite a few months to complete and I'm still making upgrades to this day. Looking forward to seeing how he looks in the next movie so we have something else to aspire to.

Re: Phasma WIP
Same here! I've remade these shoe coverings twice now and I just can't find anything that sits right. The tarsal piece is finnicky and wants to keep falling off every time I run a test. I have a feeling I might actually have to screw the tarsal part into the boot so it has some flex for when I walk. I love this costume but I hate the idea of being put into place and having to stand in one spot for an entire troop just because of how ridiculous the armor is. It's no wonder there are only 7 of these in the Legion at the moment. lol!silverBoyd wrote:can't wait to see it approved Genna

Re: Kylo Ren Build Wilmington, NC new prospective member
Just a reminder that the midcoat is now completely optional for Kylo as the CRL was updated last week. By all means go for the full thing if that is your plan, but just wanted to give you an FYI since there are a lot of people who started a Ren and haven't seen that the CRL has changed.

Welcome! Kylo is a fun build. Looking good so far! Love those Star Wars pants under the costume! Totally to the CRL.

Re: Brand new...help!
During the busy season there can be up to two events a week, during the lull there could be two to three events during a month. We do have a number of volunteers that help with photos, etc. but many of us photographers have to make the crucial choice of "do I troop?" or "do I take photos?" and many of us make the choice to troop to add more to the experience for whatever event we are at. Garrison leadership do have a staff that handle event coordination and PR, but some of the best PR comes from getting out there and trooping events. We don't have a lot of photographers here in the Charlotte area working with us. I've been trying to organize a shoot for awhile out here, but I usually get asked to wear my costume since I'm a "face character". Let's just say photographer Kylo isn't an approved CRL for trooping just yet lol.

Re: Brand new...help!
Don't let height stop you! I'm 5'5 and I was the Kylo Ren you saw at the symphony... and I'm a girl. The best costume to do is the one you know you will enjoy wearing the most, but I believe we always have a need for more white armor (aka Stormtroopers). We did four nights at the symphony and we didn't have any stormtroopers the first night and it felt very ... odd to say the least. Everyone loves to have their photos taken with stormtroopers, whereas some kids are too scared to get photos done with Kylo or Vader. I don't believe we have too many First Order stormtroopers in our area. I've only seen one. Since I'm working on a Captain Phasma, the more First Order TKs, the better!werdboync wrote:Thank you for the help and quick response!
Yes, I was at the Symphony....you guys were awesome!!
I was thinking something like a legacy stormtrooper or perhaps a First Order stormtrooper...something along those lines...maybe Boba Fett...any suggestions on something there is not a lot of in this area. I am not very tall, just 5-7, so anything that should be tall such as Vader, etc, would probably not work very well (LOL).

Re: Photography
Drew,
We are always in need of photographers to help document our trooping events. We have a number of local(ish) events coming up in the Charlotte area and you'd be most welcome to come out and take some snaps. It's also a great way to get to know the local crew. Here are a couple of the upcoming events we have going on in the Charlotte area for January.

Re: Brand new...help!
Welcome to the forums Drew. I believe some of us met you at the Charlotte Symphony event this past week? (Please, correct me if I'm wrong)
For deciding what costume you'd like to make, our library of all approvable 501st costumes is a great place to start. http://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:CRL" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Once you decide what costume you'd like to do, let us know and some of the Charlotte locals might be able to help you out with ideas of where to begin in sourcing materials, etc.

I think this has to be my favorite troop event yet. Can't wait until next year.

Re: Phasma WIP
This is where I'm at now. Remaking the shoe covers. Trimmed down the thighs and forearms last night after seeing how bad the scraping was so more photos of that soon when I have someone to take photos of me in the suit again. Most likely remaking the gloves as well. Trying to find a solution that doesn't involve throwing C-3PO fingers all over Starkiller Base.

Yes the holster is functional.. but drags down the thigh because of the weight.
