Re: Hello from Clayton

A lot of new CRLs are generated from previous CRLs of costumes that are similar. For example the TK ANH and the Shadow Stormtroopers are almost identical. It would save some time in creating a Sith JT CRL.

I saw your post over in the Detachment. That'll be a great place to start the discussion.

UrLocalDhead wrote: Sun Feb 12, 2023 4:58 pm Awesome! I look forward to creating an amazing kit with you all. I will definitely do my best to learn about this awesome community.

Also, I looked at the approved costumes on the main 501st website, but I didn't see a Sith Jet Trooper on there. I saw it on the Spec Ops forums. Is it approved?
So there is an initial draft document for the Jet Trooper, the CRL has not been completed due to no one actually building one. IOT make the CRL and get it approved we need someone to start a CRL build WIP thread so we can compare the build to the reference photos we have and then tweak the CRL wording. That individual then becomes the model for the CRL photos.

If you have the desire to be the 1st, go start a WIP thread and we as a Detachment can finish the CRL.

I know that Kevin from KB Props was building molds for the Jet Trooper but I have not seen any thing produced from him about it.

Brayden,

Welcome to the Garrison. I'm near you, just south of Knightdale. I am excited that you have chosen to work on costumes from the "Darker Side of the Darkside"

I am a DCA in the Spec Ops Det so if you need any assistance in your research and build I might be able to help.

Look forward to seeing your progress!

Steven,

Welcome to the Garrison!

After you build your TK, you know its fashionably unacceptable to wear White after Labor Day in the South. But there are options LOL   8)

Re: Prospect looking for information

Chris, welcome to the Garrison. I grew up in Columbia in the Arcadia Lakes area. That place has changed a lot. As Nathan mentioned the LMOs are a great source for getting started. The Imperial Officer Corp (IOC) has its own Detachment and are responsible for the Corp's Costume Reference Library (CRL) They have a ton of different characters to choose from so it might be difficult picking one. The great thing about the IOC is that many of the characters can be built with minor deviations. You start with one and the next thing you know you're wearing 10! Best of luck with your path.

Re: New Shadow Trooper- Coming Soon!!!

Anthony, Congratulations on your approval! I'm excited to see more and more Troopers coming over to the Darkest Side of the Dark Side. We should have enough TXs to start a good sized Spec Ops Detachment Search and Destroy. Maybe two, one for each Carolina.

Re: New Shadow Trooper- Coming Soon!!!

Looking great Anthony,
If you will allow me, there are a couple things that you can tweak that will give your overall appearance a boost.

None are serious CRL stoppers. Nice work on your build!

First is your forearms, you are a tall man so most of the premade ABS kits out there are not proportioned for individuals with longer limbs, you can hide this fact by lowering how they sit on your forearms, you can move them closer to your wrists so that the upper part of your gloves is less exposed, play around with what looks best, keep in mind that there is now minimum or maximum spacing requirement at your elbows, its simple what ever makes the overall appearance look proportional. Placing pieces of foam rubber in the forearms to make them snug will help keep them in place.

Same thing with your shins, if your boots and ankles will allow it, move them down about an inch or two and them drop your thighs down about two inches, this keeps the knee gap about the same which is OK for your body build. The top front of each shin is higher than the back so the gap in the front will look less. It will also make your ankle/boot area look less elongated and prevent your boot top from popping out from under the shin pieces. Also, by moving your thighs down a couple inches, it will help with “pinching” of your upper inner thighs from the cod piece and your thigh armor. Same trick with the foam rubber to hold your shins in place. My shins used to rotate during troopings, so I eventually put a piece of Velcro on the inside front bottom and a piece on the top front center of my boots, this helped keep the shin front strip aligned with my boots when I walked.

Your hand guards do look off just a little, the front edge of the guard should align to the edge of knuckles when making a fist. You can fix this by adjusting the elastic strap. A technique is to put a 2x2 piece of Velcro on the backside of the guard, and sew a trip on the elastic strap, this will allow you to move the guard and position it easily. After you have found that “sweet spot” you can go back and permanently affix the elastic or just leave it as is.

Though the CRL doesn’t say “how” the thigh ammo belt is to be attached for basic approval, most Shadows use the rivet method as you did, and then they use the “Level 2” “painted black” criteria. This just give a more refined appearance.

Lastly, which is a CRL stopper depending on our GML, is the holster. The two fasteners that attach the holster to the belt need to be painted black. Most Shadows also paint he rest of the fasteners/snaps on their holster black (not required by the CRL) for uniformity.

You did an outstanding job; you should be proud.

I look forward to having more Spec Ops in the Garrison, eventually I would like to try and start a Spec Ops Search and Destroy Team in the Garrison, we have quite a few TXs already and I think it would be fun to have a Team to represent the Spec Ops Detachment.

Best of luck with your submission. “Swift - Silent - Relentless”

Re: New Shadow Trooper- Coming Soon!!!

Ok I see it now, all I was seeing was what looked like screws holding a rubber strip in placed. The spacing of the screws threw me off. Normally the screw heads are paired/grouped closer together. I got ya now. Painting the screws black should work. I don't see many Shadows strapped like that as it's a TK thing. Apologies for my confusion.

As for the the CRL, I have been following the regular shadow trooper.

If you are doing the regular Shadow Stormtrooper there is no u-shaped rubber edging used. So if you wish to put the rubber edging it will need to be built and submitted as a Battlefront version.

Are referring to the screw in snip below? If I paint them black is that acceptable?

You will need to ask our GML that question. Personally I'd say no as they would still be physical visible, only black.
Ideally this is what is used and it self adheres so no screws needed

Re: New Shadow Trooper- Coming Soon!!!

Looking good so far, I know it's been a long road but you're almost there. Couple minor things.
- Make sure that on your shins all the top and bottom edges line up and that the transition from outer to inner is smooth and shaped like the CRL photos.
- The shoulder straps can be heated in boiling water for about a minute and molded to the contour of your armor. The black elastic band will help some but it makes it look cleaner when they lay flat.
- It looks like you are following the CRL for the Battlefront Shadow Stormtrooper, so the u-shaped edging does go around the chest edges, but the screws will need to be removed. You can get black auto door self adhesive trim. It will stick really well.
- One last thing, make sure none of the logos or brand names are visible on your undersuit.

Keep up the great work, we need more Spec Ops
Did you start a build thread in the Spec Ops forums yet?

Re: New Shadow Trooper- Coming Soon!!!

As a side note, on the forearms, since level 2 has them closed with cover strip and no overlapping a lot of people with wide hands have a larger circumference, so they use foam rubber inserts to keep the forearms in place. To prevent the inserts from being too noticeable, some people place a return edge on the upper opening of the forearms. If you were still wondering about that video tutorial you mentioned. Keep us posted about your progress.

Re: New Shadow Trooper- Coming Soon!!!

Whether to have return edges on your forearms or not is entirely up to you. However, the CRL for Level 2 or "Specialist" has no return edge on the front edges. Just follow the CRL and build your kit to which ever level you want to achieve. It is a lot easier to build to Level 2 initially than trying to retro-build to level 2.

Well crap! I'm not sure how I missed your post in October. Chris is correct, the Spec Ops forums are your best resources. You can post some high quality pictures of all the pieces and I can try to assist you in making sure or adjusting your armor to CRL standards.

I have a question about the undersuit. Any recommendations? Are you all using black compression wear?

Thank you in advance.
There are a number of "costume" underarmor tops and bottoms you can easily get from amazon for cheap. You want to simply look for black as possible. spandex is best. Get it very close to your size. Some advice, if you get a XXS and you're a Large, thinking you want a tight fit, it'll stretch so much you'll be able to see through it. lol.
Yeah I tried black SPANX thinking it would have that "slimming effect" LMAO ... yeah.... NO!

Re: Looking to build Imperial Combat Assault Transport Driver

Welcome to the Garrison.

Have you signed up to join the 501st Armored Cavalry Detachment? They own the CRL for the Imperial Combat Assault Transport Driver. https://forum.501starmoredcavalry.com/

That would be your best resource for WIP threads and parts suppliers. There is no material requirements for the armor (many CRLs state that the materials are PLA, ABS, or like material) so you could make it out of eva foam. A lot of the greeblies and parts are from the Shore trooper and the Tank Driver CRLs. Best of luck on your build.
