Re: (NC) Nov 15-16 -Time Travelers Weekend @ RenFair (Chlt)

Had a fun time yesterday. A lot of people were excited to see us. It took us a long time to make it around the fair and back :) SO MANY pictures! Even though it was chilly, especially in the shade, a lot of people were at the fair. We ran into members from the Florida Garrison, they even pulled out their challenge coins on us   Hopefully the Ren Fair will invite us back next :D

Wilkes Library Con V July 27 2013 NC

Wilkes Library Con 5 mission report:

The date was July 27th 2013 when 430+ people showed up for the fifth anniversary of the Wilkes Library Convention! From 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM there were tons of family friendly activities spanning nearly all things sci-fi and fantasy! Kids, teens, and adults alike joined the show along side authors, artists, heroes, and villains!

The event ran as follows:
10:00: Opening Ceremony
11:00: Jurassic Panel (Celebrating 20 years of "Jurassic Park")
12:00: "Superman: Braniac Attacks" (animated movie screening)
1:00: Trading Card Game Workshop (Provided by Spandex City Comics)
2:00: Droid Race (Hosted by the 501st)
3:00 Super Hero Look-A-Like Contest

All day events included:
Droid Hunt (hosted by the 501st)
Sci-Fi Station (sci-fi themed kids area that included activities like "Design-A-Droid" coloring center and "Boba Fett's Bounty Hunt" scavenger hunt game)
Raffle for the Library
Hallway Costume Contest
Return of the Jedi: Action Figure Spectacular display (celebrating the 30th anniversary of "Star Wars: Return of the Jedi)

Other events:
11:00: How to make your own Steam Punk Jewelry
12:00: History of Comics
1:00: How to E-publish your own novel

As always, the 501st legion was a huge hit conducting a successful Droid Hunt and Droid Race as well as providing people the opportunity to get their photos taken with some of their favorite Star Wars characters. Among the Empire's finest to attend were Kenneth Jordan (TB-1345), Tom Gardner (TK-5943), David Jordan (TB-6559), Charles Moss (TR-2442), Todd Hoyle (TI-6212), and Bryan Kihlmire (RC-5540).

Special thanks goes to David Jordan, Todd Hoyle, and Tom Gardner for providing their droids for the droid race. Thank you to Kenneth Jordan for designing the artwork used for the droid hunt badges. Thank you to Charles Moss and Bryan Kihlmire for make the 2+ hour drive down to be at the convention. Thanks to Kenneth Jordan, David Jordan, and Tom Gardner for donating their action figures and their time to make the "Return of the Jedi: Action Figure Spectacular"! Thank you to Tom Gardner, Carolina Garrison CO who went above and beyond the call of duty to assist in creating the droid hunt badges and who also stepped in at the last minute to be the 3rd judge for the Super Hero Look-A-Like Contest!

Their Imperial presence once again helped bring in over four hundred guests into the library and helped raise $96 for the Wilkes County Public Library's summer reading programs that promotes reading, writing, and the arts and for that the Wilkes Library Con staff would like to solute the troopers of the 501st and all the volunteers that help make the convention possible every year!

We hope to see you next year at Wilkes Library Con 6 on July 26th 2014!

4-20-13 Hickory Crawdads Game

On 4-20-13 Hickory Crawdads held their Star Wars themed Home Baseball game. Troopers IG-28803- Anthony Conte and TB-1345- Kenneth Jordan Jr attended the event. This was Anthony's first official troop :D As none of the other troopers posted could make it, I decided to help Anthony out for his first troop by coming from Greenville ComicCon (SC) up to Hickory by only being 20 minutes late  We had a great time and the kids really enjoyed seeing us there. We stayed there until the top of the 8th inning which I'm delighted to say the Hickory Crawdads made a great comeback from being down by 2 to 8, to tieing it and then surpasing the other team at 9 to 8 when were changing :D Not sure if they won or not though  Also like to thank Hope Roten (Sl-9819) and Jordan ( Antony's friend) for help wrangle and take pics for us :D I will post pics as soon I can get them uploaded. Anthony, you can post your pics on here as well and if you would like to add anything, since this was your first troop.
