Re: Vacuum Former
Haha that helps a lot last time I let the plastic sag a little more than my entire buck that's probably what caused the roughness.

Re: Vacuum Former
I've given the tutorial a look and I think I've figured out some of my problems. I think my buck was too big and caused it to stretch the plastic out which caused the roughness. I also need to change the position of the hole for the shop vac. The only problem I had was i can't fit my plastic sheets in the oven cause they are 24 by 24 do you think I could get away with it being smaller and still do chests?

Re: Vacuum Former
Do you use a shop vac or a vacuum pump for suction?

Re: Vacuum Former
OK, my bucks are smooth it just gets some bubbled surface on the pull kinda like trapped air between the buck and the plastic. I'm using a shop vac for suction, should I use a vacuum pump instead?

Re: Vacuum Former
Haha not those ones. When I form a buck they are like little imperfections all along the form. Kinda like air bubbles so I'm not really sure what to do about it.

Re: New to Carolina Garrison
I've made a few bucks before and they worked pretty well with what I had from a homemade vacuum former. I think I spent 30 bucks on the chest buck I made.
the problem was the former really did a number on the plastic and made it real ugly because I kinda had to use a gas heater to get it high enough and the gas and the plastic have a bit of a chemical reaction that cause it to get really charred and nasty.

Re: New to Carolina Garrison
Thanks a lot! You see I'm more of a DIY guy and have been trying to make a phase 2 clone for a while. I have a rough idea how to make bucks for vacuum forming but I can't afford an actual one. I made a homemade one but it didn't come out that great. So I've been looking for someone I might be able to pay to use theirs. Helmet wise I'm a pretty good sculptor but just figured out earth clay dries out real quick so I just need to get some oil clay and try again. Haha This was one of the early stages of the helmet before I completed it.

New to Carolina Garrison
Hello everyone! I'm new to the Carolina garrison. I've been around the 501st for about 4 years but have never been able to really get armor together because I lack a lot of the hardware and experience. I came to the forum looking for people who are local who might be able to help give me some advice.
