(NC) Oct 22 - Crystal Coast Con (Cape Carteret)

Date: October 22, 2016

Location: Mack Daddy's, Cape Carteret NC

Description of Event (Please share as much info as you can): This was the 6th annual Crystal Coast Con held at Mack Daddy's bowling alley and arcade in Cape Carteret NC. They've invited us out every year with a donated table and passes for costumed characters and this was no exception. We were going to be sharing a table for all 3 groups but shortly before the doors opened they gave us an additional table. The Star Wars costuming community had a huge presence this year, especially for such a small con. I'm glad so many came out! The con itself was typical interactions with attendees and lot of posing for photos. We handed out informational flyers and trading cards to some interested people that were familiar with our organization but weren't aware that we were active in this region. That's what these things are all about! Hope we have some new recruits soon. Thanks again to everyone that came out!

Re: SC ANH Tusken Build WIP

Looks good, man.
If you come up with anything you have questions about I'll be glad to try to answer them.
Good thing about Tuskens are that there are a thousand ways to do things and end up with great results.

(NC) Oct 17 Crystal Coast Con

We had a shared 501st/RL/Mercs table at this year's Crystal Coast Con at Mack Daddy's in Emerald Isle. We've had a table there several years in the past, Jane made all of the arrangements with them and helped set up on the day of the con. She printed flyers and left a photo album for people to flip through and I brought along my work-in-progress Mando helmet as a decoration.

Brandy (DZ-41982) and I (DZ-10206) manned the table the whole day, we had assistance from a friend that came as a handler (he borrowed my Jedi garb) and we met another RL hopeful in an excellent Jedi costume. He hung around for a while and we got to know him.
We had plenty of others stop by that were familiar with one or all of the costuming groups and seemed surprised that we were in this area. We handed out all of the pamphlets, even resorted to writing things down. TONS of photo requests, and a lot of people remembered some of us from previous years. It was a great time for a small con.

Didn't get many pictures as we were in costume but I found this one a friend took.

They were taking free pictures and printing them out for anyone attending so I got mine... Heh

(NC) Oct 10th SWRD New Bern Books-A-Million

My wife and I (DZ-41982 & DZ-10206) attended the local Reads Day event at Books-A-Million and brought along a friend that is interested in SW costuming. It gave him a chance to see what we're all about and helped us by having eyes and ears that weren't in a mask.

About 25 kids showed up for the story which was read by the organizer of the event, Rose. She was extremely friendly and helpful to us leading up to & during Reads Day.

After story time the kids made paper star fighters and attempted to 'blow up' the Death Star by throwing them through the exhaust port. She'd made a large Death Star with an opening in it and hung it from the ceiling.

Most of the employees and some shoppers wanted pictures and asked about the event, Rose was excited about everything and wants to plan additional things in the future. Overall it was a great experience and our friend has started working on his first costume. Also met a 501st member from Boston that had just relocated. Definitely going to do this again next year!

Here we are with Rose.

Another friend took more pictures but I haven't seen them pop up anywhere yet. I'll post them as I get them.

Re: Hello from New Bern ( w/ Tusken Raider and Jawa builds)

Thanks for the upgrade to RL and putting my posts where they belonged.
Already replied to Roguetrooper and Jester on the corrected build thread.

Brandy might join up on the forums here but she's not really into them, not something she has a lot of experience using and pretty much told me to handle it... Heh.

Hello from New Bern ( w/ Tusken Raider and Jawa builds)

Hey, I'm David (or Darinus - I use the screen name on RL and MM forums). My wife and I live in New Bern and go to every Con we can make it out to, I've probably met several of you before.
I'm a member of Rebel Legion with a Jedi costume and recently began construction of a Tusken Raider, my wife isn't official but has a Jawa costume that we've been working on bringing up to club standards.

As hers was constructed over the last two years we don't have many build photos, I do have pics of some of the more recent changes.
We've made everything for the Tusken in the last 2 weeks and I've (over)documented the entire process. Shortly I'll throw the pics up of everything up to where I'm at now.

Any tips, tricks, suggestions, or genuinely funny quips are appreciated.
