Does anyone have any connections at Duke where we could discuss a troop to the children's hospital?
I'm interested in trying to set up an event there.
Looks like we haven't been there in a while.
Thanks,
Jeff

(SC) April 18 - Special Olympics (Myrtle Beach)
Date: April 18, 2018
Location: Ticketreturn.com Field (Pelican's Stadium)
Description of Event (Please share as much info as you can): Horry County Special Olympics
The event was help at Pelican's field in Myrtle Beach. We dressed in an upstairs suit and hit the field awaiting the torch run that ends near home plate. The torch was escorted by a full motorcade and was run in by various Myrtle Beach residents, Police, Fire, and others.
There was a great rendition of the National Anthem and then the games began. As always, the kids and adults were great. We took a lot of pictures and talked to a lot of families. We made the rounds to cheer on the athletes. This was Justin's first official troop and it was an amazing success. Everyone loves Vader...
We wrapped up after everyone had their fill of us and proceeded to grab a group lunch. We had a reporter and photographer with us from South Carolina Living Magazine - we are looking forward to a great article to share what we all do as loyal members of the empire. The magazine is distributed to over 500,000 homes and businesses so if there are people out there who may not be familiar with us they should be soon.

This was an amazing event. Thanks for getting it set up. Vader delivered a great speech and Creed was amazed and speechless.

(SC) June 25 Make A Wish Assistance (Myrtle Beach)
Date: June 25, 2017
Location: Myrtle Beach Airport
Make a Wish - South Carolina contacted the Carolina Garrison for assistance with a Make a Wish recipient who was arriving at Myrtle Beach Airport. The hero of the event was Salvador, who is 12 years old and was arriving with his family from Pennsylvania. We arrived at the airport early to meet with Horry County police and the Make a Wish group. The flight was delayed so we spent a little extra time talking about nerdy stuff.
Ever wonder how to get past TSA really fast? Dress up like a Star Wars character and have the police say, "they're with us"...we were escorted directly to the arrival gate. As you can imagine our travels through the airport generated a lot of interest. We stopped for a few photos along the way and then waited at the gate for the flight to arrive. The plane emptied with the exception of Salvador and his family. Salvador as given a tour of the cockpit and met with the pilots. Little did he know that the tallest Tie Pilot in the Empire would be squeezing onto the flight deck with him to provide some aviation assistance. Once the post flight check was complete Salvador was able to leave the plane for a hero's welcome. He was met on the airplane ramp thing by Jeff and Tom - a proper arrest was made for a week of fun in Myrtle Beach. Once we arrived at the top of the ramp he was welcomed by thunderous applause, and what I estimate to be over 100 people, all cheering and taking photos. We escorted Salvador and the family through the terminal and took photos along the way. There was a professional photographer on scene - we are awaiting those photos. Below are a few we took. We turned Salvador over to the Horry County police who gave him and the family a police escort to the resort. This was the best troop I've ever attended. Big thanks to Christine and Johnathan for nerd herding - there was a lot going on and the assistance was much appreciated.
Did this event support a charity? If yes, which charity? Yes, Make a Wish Foundation:
Event Length (Hours): 3 to 4 hours total +/- Tom traveled from Wilmington to attend
Carolina Garrison Members in Attendance:
1. Jeff Miller - TD
2. Frankie Gore - TI
3. Tom Tilmon - SL
Handlers:

2. Johnathan (Frakie Gore's Helper)

Special exception on 501st gear for Make a Wish!
501st gear isn't usually available to the public. This is a very special exception to help fund the 501st endowment for the Make A Wish Foundation.
Please buy a shirt and share!
This could raise over $50,000 towards the $150,000 we committed to raise!

Re: (NC) Sept 8 Weird Al Tour 2016 (Wilmington)
When I went back in to get them from the VIP guy, he asked how many people I had that performed on stage. I told him nine - and then one of the other staff chimed in and said, "they had 9 people performing - he needs 9 patches". They also acted a bit bewildered and said, "we tried to give them to you guys but you had all left. " - but there were still 3 people in the dressing room...

(NC) Sept 8 Weird Al Tour 2016 (Wilmington)
Date:SEPT 8, 2016
Location:
WILMINGTON, NC
Description of Event:
His Excellency of Weirdness and Nerd-dom - Weird Al - requested our presence the the Cape Fear Performing Arts Center to a near sold out capacity. We met in our designated dressing room, had rehearsals on stage with "Hawkeye" Weird Al's stage manager and then retired to the auditorium to await our call time. Around 8:00 we began dressing for the show and met at the Stage Left door to await our mission. Escorted to the stage by Hawkeye, we were the encore back up for Al and the band, "dancing" to "We All Have Cell Phones" and "The Saga Begins". Following the show we met to entertain the VIP Fans as we awaited Al to arrive for photos with them. Once complete, we had a meet and greet with Al, took photos, and suited down and traveled home. It was a great audience, amazing show and our stage presence turned out as awesome as I expected. Non-501st Members may be cool - but they'll never be "Dancing on Stage with Weird Al dressed as a screen accurate Star Wars Villain to The Saga Begins Cool"...
