(NC) Feb 23 - Special Olympics Polar Plunge (Kure Beach)

Date:
Saturday, February 23, 2019

Location:
Kure Beach Boardwalk

Description of Event (Please share as much info as you can):
This was the second year in a row the Carolina Garrison has trooped the Special Olympics Polar Plunge event at Kure Beach. At least it was warmer this year! Still very windy. We set up our basecamp, changed into costume and toured the boardwalk and park. The event is a race and a plunge into the ocean. Teams dress up in costumes, so seeing Vader, Fett and and a Stormtrooper seemed sort of normal. Great atmosphere and lots of people! We trooped until the race started and then had a photoshoot on the beach, which is becoming a tradition.

Re: Looking for Stormtrooper for to do GISH item this week

Attention CG Members: Any Carolina Garrison trooper willing to participate in the GISH 2018 would be unofficial. Not saying you can't do it (if you can bend into a yoga pose) but it would have to be an unofficial thing you are doing for fun and should not reference the Carolina Garrison or 501st Legion. This from the Legion Event Coordinator, Kyle Beagle:

Kyle Beagle shared a link.
July 28 at 7:42 PM
[GISH | 2018]

The Legion has a long history of suporting GISH.

Requests will follow a standard Event Request Process either through The Legion or Garrison path/channel. GCO's are reminded that this year's request to have a Stormtrooper - TK lead a yoga class is not within the preferences of Lucasfilm Ltd. / Disney for public appearances of their characters.

Date:
Friday, May 25, 2018

Location:
The Pointe 14 Theater
corner of Independence and 17th street extension
2223 Blockbuster Road, Wilmington, NC 28412

Description of Event (Please share as much info as you can):
Appearance at the new 21-million dollar Stone Cinemas The Pointe 14 theater in Wilmington for the opening of SOLO, A Star Wars Story. Mingle with guests in the lobby and hallways, search for Rebels and take pictures with fans. The busiest shows are 6pm-9:45pm with queues in the lobby. We have a secure room for changing and there are no stairs!!! The theater staff are totally geeked about having us. All members will get to see SOLO at 10:15pm in the PDX theater (PDX: Premium Digital Experience - largest screen in the Carolinas, 4K laser projector, Dolby Atmos 55-speaker surround sound) or will get passes to see it at their convenience.

Not a terrible amount of people for a Friday evening, only close to 1000, but the weather was perfect for being at the beach. We patrolled around the area and many people were given Imperial Citations for various offenses (seemed happy to get one...). Theater staff were very nice and there were no issues with Rebels or Scum.

Re: New ANH Stunt TK Build (Clemson)

Keep at it! Armor building is a labor of love and it seems it never ends, even after approval. There's always something to fix or improve. The important thing to is keep going, piece by piece. Always measure and fit everything with boots on and undersuit on. That's the only way to tell how the pieces will ride on your body.

You've got a large support group here is you need help! Good luck and can't wait to troop with you.

Re: Greetings and felicitations from Leland, NC

Greetings from across the bridge!

Robert, we'd love to have you join us. New members are always welcome! Wilmington is home to 4 Carolina Garrison members with another close by in Burgaw. Several more are in Jacksonville, Goldsboro, Myrtle Beach, Fayetteville, etc. The SouthEast corner of North Carolina is strong with the Dark Side.

I cordially invite you to any and all trooping events in the nearby area. The best way to meet our members and get to see what we do is to be there and involved.

There were over a dozen events in Wilmington last year and many already planned for this year. We're growing in numbers and popularity.

IOC is great! Our newest member, Nathan, is also an IOC from Burgaw and you would have more in common than just the uniform, I assure you.

Wilmington has three TK's (myself, Robert and Carlton) and a Kylo Ren (Tom, who is also in process of becoming a TK).

I looked you up on Facebook and do you know who you remind me of? This guy:
Image
Captain Rex from Rebels Season 2. You could totally pull this off if you wanted a second costume.

Anyway, feel free to contact me any time and I'd love to meet you in person. If you can visit us on the 17th, we'll be in Kure Beach for the Special Olympics. Not sure how many of us will make it to the Comic Con the same day downtown Wilmington but we're going to try.

My phone is 910-777-4733 and my email is tclaxman@gmail.com.

See you soon!

Mark Sinclair
