Future GSO Member Back for More

Post by kdthompson »

Evening everyone!

This is Kenya Thompson; I'd originally posted last year and wrangled with some of you at the Heroes, Villains, & Special Effects event last year. Needless to say, being that it was so late in the year and between so many crazy, unexpected things happened to me, I haven't had a chance to get back to the forums and find out about the new events are coming up.

I haven't had a chance to work on my own 501st costumes yet, but I'm curious to know what upcoming events in either Piedmont or RDU areas that are coming up that may need wranglers.

Thanks for any info!

Hi Kenya, Welcome :D

So what 501st costume were you wanted to do? Maybe we can link you to the 501st detachment that can help you along the way.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I've had plans to get started with an ANH Imperial Officer (with a sizable list of other costumes, including Darth Maul and Ep. III Anakin Skywalker). I've already gone over to the detachment for the Imperial Officers, but I've hit a road block since I haven't had money for the riding boots. With most of the other costumes I want to make, I've had similar issues.

It's why I've been sticking with wrangling for the time being; if nothing else, I can lend you all a hand.

Have you thought about the Reserve Pilot / Imperial Crewman? The boots for it are a bit easier to find (jackboots as opposed to riding boots) and you actually have two costumes right out the door plus three more you can build to easily: Tie Pilot, Imperial Gunner, and Navy Trooper. I did my RP for about $100.

I had considered it, yes, but the only pilots I'd actually wanted to do would get me into Rebel Legion and not the 501st. Of all the simpler costumes, I've always loved the black officer's uniforms, and I think waiting until I can afford the boots would be smarter for me in the long run than just making something cheaper - I'll enjoy it more in the long run.

Really, I was just asking to see what events would be coming up to lend a hand. I'm pretty set as far as my costuming plans go, especially since they extend well beyond Star Wars-related things.

I wanted to go ahead and give this thread a bump.

I'm still very interested in wrangling and helping out where I can if at all possible. I just can't look at anything on the events page to know when anything is.

It's been a while since I've popped in, since quite a few changes have occurred in my life, and it's been a bit tricky to focus on costuming for myself over the past few months. Now that things have quieted down some, I'm trying to get back on track.

Since my original plans to make a Imperial Officer have temporarily fallen through, I've been looking at something that would be a bit more straight forward for me to construct - Episode III Anakin Skywalker. Plus, I know he'd work for both the 501st and RL.

I'll post a construction thread once I clear my plate a bit. When possible, I still hope to continue wrangling, but now that I work retail, very few of my weekends are free.
