Oct. 5 - SWRD2 (Charleston County Public Library)

Post by silverBoyd »

Well, another great Star Wars Reads Day has come and gone. I know that the Carolina Garrison had many appearances and from some photos I've seen it looks as though they all went well. Here in Charleston, SC I was able to organize an event with the Main Branch of the Charleston County Public Library. We worked on the event since late-July and the library could not have been more inviting for the 501st Legion as well as the event itself. We impressed them so much that they told us we could have a permanent spot for Star Wars Reads Day from here on out.
We all arrived to the library 1 1/2 hours prior to the event start time (NOON), just to setup. They provided us with a great dressing room and also had a spread for us. The library stocked our dressing room with: cookies, chips, apples, candy and a cooler full of Mountain Dew, Coca-Cola and bottles water. They also gave us all copies of the library's "Book of the Month" - Divergent, as a thank you gift. This SWRD2 had lots of crafts, costume contest w/ great prizes, snacks, a Clone Wars: Animated Movie screening and more.
In 2012, at the first SWRD in Charleston, we only had around 40 people show up at a local book store. At this year's SWRD2 at the CCPL, we brought in over 350+. When we came out of the dressing room and walked towards the main room in the library, the line was going out the door to see us. It was a cool feeling. It was a great time and we can't wait to do it again at the library.
