New to Carolina Garrison

Post by Spartanbula »

Hello everyone! I'm new to the Carolina garrison. I've been around the 501st for about 4 years but have never been able to really get armor together because I lack a lot of the hardware and experience. I came to the forum looking for people who are local who might be able to help give me some advice. :D

Right on...welcome!!

Don't get discouraged as far as knowledge on how to assemble armor. It's not as tough as you think

Thanks a lot! You see I'm more of a DIY guy and have been trying to make a phase 2 clone for a while. I have a rough idea how to make bucks for vacuum forming but I can't afford an actual one. I made a homemade one but it didn't come out that great. So I've been looking for someone I might be able to pay to use theirs. Helmet wise I'm a pretty good sculptor but just figured out earth clay dries out real quick so I just need to get some oil clay and try again. Haha This was one of the early stages of the helmet before I completed it.

Nice...honestly it's cheaper to buy a set of armor rather than make your own bucks

Really? Cause I see most armor going for like $1000 on the clone trooper detachment.

Sometimes KW Designs will have a sale on various Clone kits. His armor and helmets are very well made. Usually the sales are around November. My Clone is a KW kit and I know others in the Garrison have his as well.

Welcome Austin.

There is a lot out money and work to make your own buck (Thermoforming Molds) not to bring up the cost of the ABS, HIPS or PVC sheets. to make is all. I have seen and done this. Not cheap done correctly..

If you look on the clonetroopers.net you can find kits that do not break the bank.

The other thing is that armor also has to make the grade (so to speak) with new armor, the LMO /GMLs do have to look at it to see if it can be approved to be used in the 501st.

keep working and if you are bound and determined, then I hope for best for ya.

I've made a few bucks before and they worked pretty well with what I had from a homemade vacuum former. I think I spent 30 bucks on the chest buck I made. :D the problem was the former really did a number on the plastic and made it real ugly because I kinda had to use a gas heater to get it high enough and the gas and the plastic have a bit of a chemical reaction that cause it to get really charred and nasty.
