Newbie on the board making a Tusken Raider

Post by XalXe »

Greeting all.

I have been trolling for some time now and now decided to join and start communications.

I am wanting/in the process of making an ANH tusken raider. This is a generic post introducing myself and looking for information. Any advice is appreciated.

Any relation to Greg French? I know Sandtroopers and Tuskens usually get along. Where are you located?

I do not know him. I'm new to my area. I just opened a business. I am just north of Charlotte.

Hey there...glad to see you on the forums. If you need any tips on a Tusken Raider feel free to ask. Also, as mentioned above, Thomas Gardner is a great source of info for the Tusken.

Be sure to also sign-up on the Krayt Clan forums for anything & everything related to the Tusken. Lots of info and "how-to's" on that forum.

There are quit a bit of Tuskens. You can find lots of info on the Krayt Clan forums. Don't rush. Take in all of the research, tips n' tricks of others and study the screenshots from the film.

Research & then research it again. This can't be stressed enough when doing any costume / armor.

But feel free to ask questions here too. And be sure to post progress pics.

Jason, I don't think he was looking for a "yes" to that question. At least I wouldn't. I think if you decide to build a Tusken Raider, it's because you want something different. Sure, there's a few Tusken's out there, but I don't think I've seen more than one at any local event.

Biker Scouts and Tie Pilots are become a little too commonplace for me, which is why I'm trying to finish a Mandalorian. At least the Rebels show is heavily featuring the pilots so maybe people will stop calling them Darth Vader, and it doesn't seem as weird when we have 3 show up at an event (I don't think you ever saw more than 2 walking around in the originals).

Tuskens walk in single file, to hide their numbers! No one really knows how many Tuskens are around until they ambush you. But yes Tuskens are fairly common and becoming more popular in the legion. Also a costume that does well with more than one. Kinda scary costume when you really think about it. Not too many kids will turn their back on you... Always watching , waiting for the the creature to strike. Most kids warm up to you quickly, but some are scared out of their pants. I always take my helmet off and show them its just me smiling in there. If he found The Krayt Klan Forums, he should have ll the info he needs. Good luck. And have fun!

Welcome Ryan!!

If you need help or advice on your Tusken please post up (several of us here have done some great sand people) and a re happy to help ya.

Where abouts are you located? you maybe close to one of our dirty old tuskens or just living next door to a Carolina Garrison members and did not know it (most of us do not do yard work in our 501st costume) I said most... :P

Take your time researching ask questions before buying to those who know and have done this before (safe you a lot of heartache and money) and time......

I took 6 months looking and researching my ANH tusken.. then built it in 5 weeks...But I did all my metal work and formed my mask shell and sewed/dyed the cloth, did the leather work (bandoliers ) and carved my gunstock gaffi...

Plus the Tusken all the drop dead girls.... :P

I am doing all the research I can. I just bought some cloth dye. I got all the dessert colors I could dint to play with coloring when I get that far. I'm still looking for my cloth and I will be molding my own helmet. I truly believe half the fun is figuring out how to make these parts.

I'm just north of Charlotte. If my one is in the area I'd love to talk some time.

I did the same thing (molded my Tucken mask. did the metal part myself ans all the leather for the mask and bandolier. plus dye sew all the tusken garments... (6 months or R&D 6 weeks of to the build) all mine no I bought this for this vendor or that was someones at one point. So I know what you are saying "half the fun"

I am 25-20 mins from the heart of uptown Charlotte. if you do want to get together let me know.

Once all the information from the Carolina garrison has been tapped, then other avenues will be investigated. Plus keeping up with another forum it more than I can handle.

I'm toying with the idea of making my own "metal" parts. Does anyone have the measurements for them?
