Description of Event (Please share as much info as you can):
This was a family fun day for Verizon Wireless employees. Over the course of the day, there were 600-800 in attendance. It was a beautiful day for a troop. We arrived about 10:30am and were met by Kirk DeWeil, who coordinated the event for Verizon. Kirk actually participated in the event with us as ROTJ Vader, a costume he is currently working on for submission to the 501st Legion. Teddy Hatcher and I represented the Carolina Garrison and were accompanied by non-501st TK Kyle Neal and handlers, Karen Roller and Dee Nations. Dee wore a Jedi costume. We were graciously provided with a large secure changing area with restroom facilities. Once everyone suited up, we made a grand entrance from the corporate building as their DJ played the Imperial March. The crowd cheered and immediately swarmed us for photos. After that, we mingled through the crowds. We were a big hit with the little kids and “big kids” alike. We even rode a spinning amusement park ride with the attendees (In retrospect, that was probably not a great idea). We took a break for lunch. Verizon provided all the pizza and drinks we wanted. As the day went on, it got HOT! After round two of mingling and photo-opping, we were starting to melt. Please remember as the weather gets warmer: DON’T FORGET TO TAKE BREAKS AND HYDRATE. I felt like I was trodding aimlessly across the wastelands of Tatoooine at one point. Fortunately, there was a misting tent which we took advantage of several times. While we were there, we managed to help Kirk with his ROTJ Vader submission photos, so look for him to be joining the ranks soon! This event was very well planned and executed by Verizon. It was a joy to participate. Kirk said Verizon management was very pleased with our appearance.
