The Carolina Garrison was invited to attend Space & Sci-Fi day at SciWorks in Winston Salem NC. The Garrison responded by showing up in Force. We had a total of ten troops in attendance. At first the plan was to have us in a small theater for pictures with patrons, however the troops couldn't be contained and were out on patrol all around the Museum. Lots of Star Wars fans came out to see many of their favorite characters. Troops helped teach children how to fish, care for Tauntauns, solve puzzles, and much more. We were able to find two new recruits that showed interest in joining the Empire. After the troop a few troopers headed to McAlister's deli for a little after troop meal. This was a great troop and everyone in attendance had a blast. We hope that Sci-Works makes this an annual troop.

Had a great time. I can't get over how nice Matt's Boba costume is. Some really excellent work there. Down to the "accidental" paint smudges.

It really was a great day! Going outside for a stroll and group picture and then seeing Vader stroll through the grounds was awesome. Hopefully this is a yearly event. I do agree with Tim...Matt's Boba Fett is absolutely amazing. All of the outfits were great! Never did find any Rebels, droids or Ewoks. Checked the whole place! But I did find some good art.

Thanks Mark and Tim, but everyone costumes were top notch. Wanted to share an email that I received from the event contact today.


Those pictures are AWESOME! Is it OK if I post some on our Facebook page?

You guys were absolutely fabulous – even better than I could have imagined. You added infinitely to our event, and your presence was obviously thrilling to the many Star Wars fans who came especially to see you (and to me as well since it’s my favorite film of all time)!

Our total attendance that day was 288 (or 309 if we count y’all and other exhibitors). That’s not bad for a Sunday. I was so glad to see that you said that you hope we make it “an annual troop”! You bet we will! In fact, I would like to repeat the event but offer it earlier in the year (March perhaps?) when there is less competition within the community. I am confident that we could easily double the attendance. So I’ll be in touch.

Lastly, we ARE a 501(c)3 designated non-profit, so your visit DID support a charity. Admission fees from visitors help to fund our exhibits and educational programming.

Please extend my heartfelt appreciation to the troops. I hope that some of them will use their Free Family Admission passes to come visit us again soon (when they don’t have to sweat quite so much). :-}

Here's my version of what that smuggler scum looked like when Vader froze his butt on Bespin back in the day. He was all smootchy with his girlfriend but then WHOOOSH, he ended up stiff as a coffee table. LOL!
