Lurking for a while. Hi from the Charleston area
Been lurking for a while. Saw some of you guys at the captains comic expo panel. Got my hands on an ATA helmet kit to build while I wait for the rest of it. How often do you guys do the armor parties in this area? Studying a lot of tutorials and trying to absorb as much info as I can before cutting into this thing.

Re: Lurking for a while. Hi from the Charleston area
Great to see you "take your first steps into a larger world".
ATA is a good kit to build. I have had the pleasure of building one for a local Charleston-area member and it was a good kit. Where in Charleston are you located? Which version of the TK do you plan on building eventually?
We haven't had any armor parties int his area in a while but we have multiple members in Charleston who are always working / building something. I'd actually like to get an armor party going sometime this year in this area.
It can be daunting when you look at your kit and are nervous at making that first cut. The best advice is to study everything you can about building the helmet. There are lots of great tips-n-tricks out there and plenty of tutorials on the FISD (First Imperial Stormtrooper Detachment - http://www.whitearmor.net" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). I'\m sure you've already been reading those.

Re: Lurking for a while. Hi from the Charleston area
I've been so caught up in helmet research that I haven't gone into the differences of each tk build. One mountain at a time right. Plus I've got about 9 more months of waiting for my kit to research the actual armor. I live between Moncks corner and Summerville. Let me know if you scrape together a party. I'd love to learn from folks with more experience than me

Re: Lurking for a while. Hi from the Charleston area
We might get something together in the Fall perhaps as far as an armor party in the Charleston-area. I'll keep you posted. We always have members working on projects year-round. Currently I'm putting the finishing touches on my RotJ Royal Guard and am about 20% into putting together an AT-AT Driver. We have a member in Summerville who is amazing at TK armor / helmet assembly. He has built (3) full ESB TK kits from head to toe. His username is (cidyank) on the Garrison forums.
Good luck on the ATA helmet build. The TK helmets are rather easy once you get the hang of it. Have you begun trimming anything? If i was you, I'd start with the trimming out of the eyes. The easiest part. The ATA helmet kit is specific in its assembly especially when marrying the faceplate with the rest of the helmet. My first and personal helmet I assembled is known as an MTK helmet. My 2nd Stormtrooper helmet I assembled (and hand painted) was the ATA kit for a friend.
When it comes to trimming those side "S-curves" for the ear cap to cover up, that is the most crucial step. Go very slow and take off only a little material at a time. You can always take more off but you can't put it back. Obviously.
I did a small tutorial and posted my questions to other troopers when I hit a stumbling block getting it to fit together when I attacked the ATA kit. Check out the link here. It might answer some questions. I eventually got it to fit together properly but it may be worth your time to read the 2-page thread on the FISD forums.

I'm in Charleston too. And I'd be interested in an armor party. Just finished my first TK and have another kit ready to start. Just haven't figured out when and whether I'll do another TK or try for a TD.

Same here. I live in Charleston and just finished my first TK ANH Stunt. I am now working on the HWT. Would definately be interested in an armor party or any kind of get together.

Funny, I just did your 501st profile picture and after reading this realized you lived in Charleston too. This area is really growing fast. What part of Charleston are you in? I'm in Mt Pleasant. I am also in Mt. Pleasant and have been here since I was born. I am working on a HWT. It sounds like there is 3 or 4 of us in the immediate area.

Re: Lurking for a while. Hi from the Charleston area
There are 12 of us (almost 13) in the Charleston-area + a few Rebel Legion members, R2D2 from the R2 Builders Club (and soon to be a BB-8) and a few Mando Mercs. In the past 4 years, Charleston has really grown.wscantey wrote:I am also in Mt. Pleasant and have been here since I was born. I am working on a HWT. Who's doing an armor party in Hanahan?

I was referring to the Sound Wave Comics Mini-Con in Hanahan on the 16th.silverBoyd wrote:There are 12 of us (almost 13) in the Charleston-area + a few Rebel Legion members, R2D2 from the R2 Builders Club (and soon to be a BB-8) and a few Mando Mercs. Oh ok. I wondered if that's what you meant. Will you be attending the Mini-Con?
