Description of Event (Please share as much info as you can):
This was a school carnival for Rudolph Gordon Elementary School in Simpsonville, SC. We arrived shortly after the carnival began. This school, which is the only thing on Scuffletown Road for miles in any direction, was already overflowing. It is a very nice, recently built facility, but I had problems finding a place to park due to the already crowded lot. I unloaded, was escorted inside to our changing area, and joined Teddy and Alex who had arrived a few minutes earlier. Alton Ouzts, who we are trying to convince to join the Legion, met up with us and played Vader for the kids. After we all got suited up, Shannon Petrus (one of the event organizers) escorted us to our spot in front of the DJ’s area. It took us a while to make the nearly 100-foot journey as we were mobbed by fans young and old almost immediately. We posed for too many photos to count and danced with the kids to songs us old guys could keep up with like Electric Slide, Cha-Cha Slide, Wobble, etc. We had a few rowdies that wanted to run by and push or hit us, but our handlers put a stop to that. Thanks, guys! We had a photo-op with some real life heroes from the local fire department and sheriff’s office, even a K9 officer. For kicks, we had our picture made in a hot air balloon gondola at the Remax photo booth. We ended the evening with more dancing and pictures with the kids. Lots of fun had by all at this surprisingly large school carnival. The event organizer reported there were over 1000 in attendance!
