How To Submit Your 501st Legion Application & Pictures

Post by silverBoyd »

You have finished building and obsessing over your 501st Legion Armor / Uniform build. Now what? How do you submit your application and approval photos?

Look no further. This small guide should get you moving in the right direction.

BEFORE YOU CONTINUE...

STEP ONE: Do you qualify for membership?

Do you own a professional quality Star Wars costume?
Are you at least 18 years old?

If you qualify for membership, proceed with the following:

PREPARE YOUR APPROVAL PHOTOS

Once you have your costume finished, you need to prepare your photos and submit your application. Your local Garrison Membership Liaison (GML) will need to verify your qualifications. To do this, he or she will need to see multiple pictures of you in your costume for validation. You can base ALL of your approval photos on the CRL which matches your armor / uniform. It's best to send lots of photos rather than just 4 sides and a "helmet off" picture. Any and all important "close-up" photos of certain details are nice touches to add in the photos as well. The more pre-planning you do when submitting photos, the easier the approval process will be.

You can look up the email address for the current Carolina Garrison Membership Liaison (GML) by visiting the following link:
http://www.501st.com/members/displayUnits.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The following tips will help make sure that you get the right photos to the GML on your first try:

- Only submit pictures of yourself alone against a plain background (no convention photos, please). Try to take photos in front of plain backgrounds that DO NOT match the color of your armor / uniform. If photos are inadequate, you may be asked to retake your photos for approval.
- We will need photos with your helmet/mask on and off (if applicable).
- You must include full-length views of your costume from the front, back and both sides.
- Be sure to take your photos with adequate lighting and at a high-resolution to help us inspect the details. The higher the resolution...the better. Also, it's best to take photos outdoors when the sun is at its highest in the sky to give the best lighting.
- DO NOT wear any non-canon accessories or add-ons; including jewellery, glasses, earrings, (unit patches, extra weapons, pauldrons when not part of the canon costume, etc...)
- If you include any weapons such as a blaster or lightsaber, please ensure that they conform to the weapons policy found at the link below.

SUBMITTING YOUR 501st LEGION APPLICATION

Once your GML confirms that your suit is complete and valid for membership, please fill out the online application.

1. To submit your application, visit http://www.501st.com/members/join_form.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and fill out the online form.

When your application is approved, you will receive confirmation via e-mail. Your Legion ID # will be assigned and your record marked as "ACTIVE" in the 501st Legion member database. Please note that the 501st Legion is an all-volunteer organization and the application process may take several days - several weeks to review. Depending on the work load of the individual reviewing everything. The Carolina Garrison strives to provide the accurate and quick turn-around times.

NOTE:
Do not be discouraged if you don't get approved on the first try. Our Carolina Garrison GML will be looking to approve new cadet recruits with a precise eye for detail to make sure you are looking your absolute best. Your local GML will work closely with you to provide recommendations and resources that can assist you in modifying your costume to meet Legion requirements. We also have members in the Garrison who have already been through the process and are always happy to assist you as well. There are no stupid questions when it comes to building / sizing / weathering your armor or uniform.
