New Scout In-Progress

Post by NCwerewolf »

Greetings!

I am brand-hammer-new to the costuming and cosplay world, though I have always wanted to be involved in the hobby. I recently retired from the military and hafta find a hobby before I go nuts, so here I am. Better late than never, I reckon. I am a member of the 501st Pathfinders Detachment forum and have just pulled the trigger on my very first costume components. It will of course take me a while to complete the outfit, but in the meantime, I would really like to get involved with the Carolina Garrison and perhaps assist in some troops as a civilian while I'm working on my alter-ego. After 20 years in the Army, I am an EXCELLENT pack mule. lol

I look forward to speaking with you all and meeting in the future.

Heya and welcome.

It's always nice to have 'handlers' at events. Those with masks have limited vision, so having someone to help guide them or make sure small kids don't try to hug their legs and get plowed over, makes a difference.

Great to have you on board!!

Thanks for the welcome. Is there a running list of upcoming events somewhere; perhaps on social media or whatnot? I'd like to start keeping an eye out and getting the calendar synch'd.

Hello and welcome. On the front page at the top you will see a event calendar tab. There you can see events we will attend. If it's on the calendar then we have members signed up to attend. Hope this helps.

Trackin, thanks.

What's the protocol for meeting up at these events? Is there a "mission leader" that tracks Garrison attendance or organizes the rally point?

There is a POC. Point of contact for each event. Once you are a full Garrison member you will have access to the events page. Here is where all sign ups and planning are done. If you have an event you are interested in attending let me know and I can put you in touch with the correct contact.

Ok, thanks. I was thinking that perhaps it would be smart for me to attend some events as a civilian, perhaps with an offficial handler present, in order to observe the protocol and watch the troopers. Kinda like some field training and familiarization before jumping in and fumbling around like an idiot.

We love to have recruits out at events. Either to handle or observe. It helps you see what we do and how much fun we have, and makes you want to be part of the Garrisonfor sure

Hey Wolf it's FanDam from CDP cool to see that you're interested in the 501st it's a great hobby to get into. I don't know anything about scout builds but if you have any questions feel free to ask. Best of luck on your scout build!

Whaddup, FanDam! Great to be here and good to see you again, for sure. I'm looking forward to this. I'm taking the youngns to the Shelby ComicCon this weekend for their first cosplay adventure (my three daughters are ages 6, 9, and 10 and they all have various Star Wars and superhero Halloween costumes). They're gonna beat me to the punch, lol.

I'm working on the scout too and also about 5 others. Need to focus and work thru the designs.
