New hopefully soon to be Central Carolina Trooper!

Post by ravinousbunny »

Hi, everyone. I just finally got set up to post and would like to introduce myself! I am 21, the name is Austin. I currently live in Winston Salem, NC. I have been a life long fan of Star Wars and always wanted to have a set of armor myself for years. That is finally going to happen!

Right now I am in the process of ordering an NE kit, should hopefully have it ordered Monday. I already ordered a TM ANH STUNT helmet from Troopermaster and currently waiting for that to arrive in the mail. It is fully finished so I will only need to focus on the armor. I have absolutely zero experiences with doing this, but I've spent hours running through the different threads on the FISD site, putting together a shopping list, taking notes of details, what goes where, bookmarking important tips, etc. Obviously I will be gunning for the ANH STUNT build. My profile on the FISD site is the same as here.

Can't wait to get to start knowing the members of the Carolina Garrison and look forward to the day I can join the ranks. :)

That is the link to my build on the FISD, I could def use help, I have the biceps done, left forearm done, working on the right forearm. I have not glued anything yet. Had a bit of a bee problem to take care of. The right forearm is so much different than the left it is giving me some trouble!

Hi, Austin! Welcome to the CG. You will definitely find out that your right side is definitely different from your left.

Austin I looked at your build the other day, but got tide up with real life. (sorry) When you said different from left to right, like Al said above the left and right are mirror to each other, but if you are talking about not being the exact copy just flipped you are correct, because they are hand sculpted molds that the armor is thermal formed over. so just like anything done by hand it will not be prefect. The original Stormtrooper armor was sooooo wonky and not the same from left to right. the original ANH forearms had 11 dimples on one and 12 on the other. So in short do not sweat the little wonky things about the armor.

If this is not what you were talking about, please explain a little more so we/ I can help ya. :D

That's exactly what I was talking about! Also which one goes on which arm? Does it matter? I'm still glueing the forearms together. I just got my strapping for my torso worked out, still needs some work probably, and I also don't have the belt yet so that will move a few things around and help. I am worried I may have trimmed a little to much off the ab but the piece fits really good, so I'm not 100% sure.

Hi Austin, the forearms does matter (left to right) if you post a pic of the two forearms I will be happy to tell which is the right and which is the left. :D

With the strapping, are you using Velcro or Snaps?

As far as the strapping I am using snaps. I do have a piece of velcro on the left side along with snaps to help hold, will probably change that to a snap later, need more snaps. I don't think I will shoot for completely accurate yet so I won't put on the split rivets for the kidney and ab. I do not have the tools nor the workspace to be working with those.

For forearms these are the best pics I have at the moment showing the back ends.
I am thinking the top picture is the right forearm just because of the way it would fit the arm at a bend. I am probably wrong and I am still gluing the forearms together so nothing is set in stone.

OK I looked back at your build thread, and you have a photo with the arm parts.

Below I marked them for you. Here is how you can tell.

The right bicep, which the original screen used Stormtrooper armor the right Bicep did not have a thumbprint dimple but the left bicep does.

ANH/ESB: Right Bicep: did not have a thumbprint dimple
ANH/ESB: Left Bicep: does have the thumbprint dimple

The forearms have a sculpted contoured ridge on the inside/top of them that the cover strip them is glued over. The bottom of the forearms do not, they a basically match/butted up to one another (without the build -in ridge) and then just a glued cover strip over the non-ridged butt joint.

ANH/ESB forearm: sculpted contoured ridge on the inside/top
ANH/ESB forearm: match/butted up to one another

Now the ROTJ style is different but since you are doing an ANH Stunt, that can be talked about for later.....

Cool, I had the biceps figured out with the thumbprint already, glad I do have the forearms sorted out as well, thank you! Also I have somewhat of a problem. The helmet I have (TM STUNT) seems to be a little off white compared to the rest of the armor, don't get me wrong it is white just not as white as the rest of the armor. It can be pretty hard to tell sometimes, though in certain light it is pretty obvious. I am not sure exactly how much of a problem it would be with everything on, or if it will be noticeable at all. Not sure what if anything I should or could do about it. Like I said I am not sure how it will stand with all the armor on.

The shade/tone of the armor to lid is not going to be that much to worry about. The original screen used suit in ANH and ESB were different shades/tone, the armor was a milk white ABS and the Stunt lids were a Khaki-ish green HDPE that was spray painted white. A lot of the troopers in the 501st have different makers lids to armor with the same deal. The only way to have the same shade/tone is for the the whole suit to have been made out of the batch of plastic and that can also vary as well. Just keep plugging away and enjoy the ride to the darkside!
