Description of Event (Please share as much info as you can):
Blue and Gold Banquet is the celebration of the advancement of members through the scouting ranks. This years' theme for Pack 352 was Star Wars. Members of the Carolina Garrison of the 501st Legion were joined by Blue Ridge Base Rebels to bring their theme to life. Members arrived around 3:00PM and were suited and ready when the event began at 4:00PM. We patrolled the Banquet hall for about 35 min posing for pictures and interacting, while scouts ran around, engaged Star Wars themed games and even built mini-tie and x-wing lego kits. They seemed confused when i kept referring to the x-wings as the bad guys, and several asked if i was Grand Moff Tarkin. I assume because I cut such a dashing figure in my newly approved ID, on it's first wearing. Following the Flag Ceremony, we had a short break during which TK Dan spotted a fountain as photo opportunity. Second round was some mingling with the LONG buffet line, culminating in our troops arresting a retiring and long winded Cubmaster before he could launch into his speech. It was a great troop and we all had fun.
I've included an excerpt from the letter of appreciation sent to us by the coordinating Cubmaster....
I was thrilled at the size and professionalism of the contingent that you all brought to our celebration. With all of the ceremonies and awards that take up much of the Blue and Gold celebration, it is so difficult to come up with themes and activities to keep them excited and interested for three hours. And since this is my last year, I knew that I wanted me and the Webelos to go out with a bang. You and yours practically fired us out of a cannon! and gave the boys a memory that will stay with them forever. And the willingness of Curtis and the stormtroopers to "arrest" me and drag me out of the hall got the biggest laugh of the evening. Everyone had great things to say about your presence in the hall last evening.
Like I told Curtis, my biggest regret was not having enough time to talk with you guys about your organization and the work you do. Your willingness to travel and to give of your time and talent to give kids a special day or evening has my greatest respect. Please extend my thanks and the appreciation of our boys and Pack parents to all of the members of the Carolina Garrison and the Rebel Legion.
Pack 352 will be making a donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation in your name...
