Hope to Troop

Hello everybody. My name is Devlin and I am one of the many that ordered the Anovos stormtrooper kit. Only problem is...I have NO idea what I am doing, where to start or where to go. I still have it in a box 3 weeks after it arrived because I am scared to touch it. I have loved Stormtroopers since I was a kid and saw New Hope back in the 70s. I loved them so much that my action figures were the cleanest because they always won the fights in my world haha. Poor Ben, Leia and Yoda looked like they had seen much better days.

Sorry! I get shiny object moments at times. So basically, back to me...I live in RTP/Brier Creek area of Durham. I would love to meet others and start trooping. So I guess I am praying and hoping that there are build parties or if there is somebody local willing to take on an apprentice of sorts I would be forever grateful. Just anxious to build the suit, get approved and start having fun!

Have a great night and look forward to meeting the garrison.

Welcome to the Carolina Garrison! Don't worry too much about not knowing what you're doing, most of us started off that way. Do your research on the FISD and start talking to people who have experience, it'll all come together.

Good luck!

Hey man, right, like Anthony mentioned, don't get overwhelmed. We have some people in the Raleigh area. And you should be able to find someone to help. Let's see who may post on here for your area. Good luck, and we can make this happen!

Welcome Devlin! CONGRATS on your armor purchase. I am in Raleigh and would be glad to help you in your armor assembly. There are a few TK's in the area and all can be a good resource for you. Are you a member of the FISD, http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ? Lots of good info there including many folks building that armor. I'm PM'ing you my contact info.

Welcome aboard. There is a big event coming up in Raleigh on April 2/3 it's called Brickuniverse. This would be a great event for you to come out and meet some troopers and see what we do. Here is a link to the event info http://www.brickuniverse.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Welcome...

Take a piece at a time and focus on it. It will help from feeling overwhelmed. Plus, researching...research...research. Can't be stressed enough. http://www.whitearmor.net" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; has so much information for the TK. And you'll find so many people have stumbled and solved problems in the assembly process and it's all documented. Feel free to ask as many questions here too. There's never a dumb question when looking to join or assemble armor.

Hello again everybody.
I noticed a thread about a build party in Asheville. Just wondering if there was anywhere to look for ones in the Raleigh/Durham area?
I have been trimming my kit and have I would say 80% or more done. May have rest done by next weekend since I plan to work on it rest of today and this week. (Working on this and a wookiee at the same time since trimming these pieces has been killing my hand!) I was pointed to a tutorial that most say is one of the better Anovos tutorials and found out that not all the cut lines are where you think they are. I am not sure if I messed up any of those just yet....but I pray not. Once I am done trimming, I will try to work at putting it together, but would feel much better if I had another suit to look at in person or some experience around me. I can look at images all day long, but they are 2D and I really like to study things to make sure they are as perfect as I can make them. I keep reading that the belt in the kit is no good, so I should get a new one. I can hopefully order one this week. Got my TK Boots in and they fit great. Really hope to have both this and the wookiee done before Celebration next year. Figure this shouldn't be too difficult if I have all the parts already.

Thanks,
Devlin

If I was closer I would go. I just now finished trimming all the parts in the kit. Still need to sand them, but that won't take long. Not sure if it is worth doing before doing any sizing, but if I can during the week I will since it will go quick.

I suppose I should by some extra small earth magnets to help with fitting too. Not sure if I will be around next weekend, so will see how much I can do during the week and if I can get anything done next weekend, that is a bonus. Just excited to now be basically at the fitting stage.

Devlin , did you get a hold of Jim for any assistance? He mentioned private messaging you some information. Sounds like you have it under control, but it is always nice to get a helping hand.

Doing a Wookie too? Wow! That is a lot of work in itself I hear. Message us if you need any assistance.

I did send Jim an email along with this post since we haven't spoken in a little bit. Hopefully I can see his suit soon. I don't think I will start assembly till I get earth magnets since that seems to be the next step and I have some....but not as many as it seems a lot of folks are using. I have some things I have to do Saturday, so hopefully Sunday will be a good day to get a few pieces started if I follow the build tutorial on white armor. Hopefully I will have my garage cleaned out enough I can get to my sander by then too. I am most likely really over thinking and over worried about this, but rather be safe than sorry lol.

The wookiee I actually started planning and getting parts for before I ordered this kit. I am told be ready for about 1000 hours of work. This year I have decided not to custom make anything, just finish what I have so this and the wookiee and my 95% complete mando are the only things I have planned for rest of 2016. The mando is last on the list. At least the wookiee I can latch hair while I watch TV lol, so hopefully by mid-June I will be ready for the pants/shirt to be latch hooked. Stilts are basically done, just waiting on latch hook and need to make some toes later....again, once garage is cleaned out. I have pool parts sitting in the way because I was given a large above ground pool but can't find anybody to hire to level the land where I want it. Crazy! I am about to give it away just because it has become a pain in my side lol
