New future trooper hopeful!

Hey, everyone! I'm Chris. Located in the Charleston area, new to the group and looking to get involved. I have NO idea what I'm doing or how to get started, I've read the CRL and totally got overwhelmed. So I guess this is more of a cry for help than anything else! I'd really like to work on A scout trooper build, but I understand that might not be the best place to start for someone having no experience. Hoping there's someone in my area that has some spare time to help!! Thanks in advance!

Welcome Christopher. You will be in good hands in the Charleston area. Our CO lives in the Charleston area and we have another member in Charleston that has a super nice Scout. I will let them know you are looking for guidance. If I can assist you in anyway I'll be happy to help.

Welcome Chris! Nice to see you sign up on the forums. One step in the right direction

In fact we have (2) Biker Scouts in the area that I'm sure could show you some things. Have you looked into purchasing? What it may cost? One of the most popular kits out there is the SC (Studio Creations) Biker Scout armor & helmet. There's also a nice kit from a maker (who I think is in Canada...but I could be wrong) named Kropserkel. SC & Kropserkel are probably the (2) most popular 501st Biker Scout vendors. Not only will you need the hard parts but you'll have to outsource or make your own cummerbund, boots, vest, pouches, as well as buy a black Flightsuit and add suede to the inner thighs. All things that can be easily done with a little research. If you're interested in a Scout, have you signed up on the Pathfinders forums? There you will find a plethora of information on assembling, preparing & buying pieces to complete your Scout and enter the 501st.

Here's a link to the SC (Studio Creations) armorer:

Link to Kropserkel: (if you email them about armor they'll send you back a price sheet)

Don't get too overwhelmed by the CRL. Focus on one piece at a time if that helps. It's really a guide to make sure you look your absolute best.

Thanks so much for the immediate support! I have looked into the cost and some kits, so I have a rough idea about the investment. Good recommendation to take it one piece at a time, I think that'll be easier for the wallet to handle too! I look forward to meeting/working/learning from you all!
Thanks for the links!!

Well, as far as taking it one piece at a time...I know for sure you can purchase the helmet separate. Sometimes vendors don't like to split up kits but you could ask. For instance, for my Sandtrooper, I bought the helmet and assembled it while saving the $525 to purchase the rest of the armor. Plus other stuff along the way. You could look at a black flightsuit for your first purchase. I'll try to send Taylor & Chris (our local Biker Scouts) into this thread and they can point you in the right direction on a few more things.

Awesome, thanks again! As I cruised through the CRL, I noticed advice to stay away from the Rubies armor parts and other vendors, so I definitely want to do it right.

yes....Rubies is no good. Unless you're going to a Halloween party. Hahahaha

General 501st rule to stay away from anything on eBay too

There's actually 4 501st scouts in Charleston, but I believe Larry is on the retired list since he hasn't trooped in a couple of years. If you look at the website for Studio Creations (in my opinion, the best armor maker), his pictures of his oldest sets of armor feature Brian Marchman who now lives in Goose Creek. You can also see a rebel trooper in some pics, that is our own Cheralyn Lambeth from Charlotte. Taylor and I are the most active locally though. I am happy to answer any questions you might have.

Thanks again everyone! Negative, I've been spending a ton of time looking at how to videos and the sc website. I think helmet and boots is where I want to start, based on being (from what I've read) most labor intensive and (from my own imagination) the devil of the details. What pieces/ vendors/ materials would you recommend for those components? I've read anywhere from good tan soled boots to cheap crappy ones, with anything from white leather to marine vinyl. I don't even know where to get that stuff. I suppose a marine supply store???
