Date:
Thursday, March 24, 2016

Location:
Gaillard Center
95 Calhoun Street
Charleston, SC

Description of Event (Please share as much info as you can):
The Charleston City Paper, the same paper that featured 501st members as the cover story in December 2015, invited us to attend the annual VIP Party for "Best of Charleston" (Charleston City Paper) winners and special guests. This was an exclusive Invitation-Only event featuring: open bar, heavy hors d'ouvres, live music and a "Who's Who" list of special guests.
The theme for this year's VIP Party was a Sci-Fi theme. The party was set up like a sci-fi convention (including Star Wars references throughout, Star Trek laser show projected all over the grand ballroom, local artists, etc). This was a 21 and older event

We spent most of the evening outside before the doors opened to the public and posed for pictures in front of a large "red carpet style" backdrop for the party. After an hour and a half of taking pictures with guests, a few of us went inside to walk around the craziness going on inside. It was very loud, very dark and got a little crazy when a guy with a vodka-filled water gun started spraying my TD armor. Not cool. At which point, I suited down in the dressing room and came back down to enjoy the festivities myself. Lots of good food was on hand and prepared by various local award-winning Charleston restaurants. It was a great time overall.

Did this event support a charity? If yes, which charity?:
No

Event Length (Hours):
7-10pm - we were in armor only from 6:30-8:30pm

Carolina Garrison Members in Attendance:

Vodka is good for getting sweat smell out of armor. He was doing you a favor! :)

I know some DragonCon folks use vanilla vodka instead of Febreeze on Day 4 because the vodka kills the bacteria and vanilla masks the smell. I haven't tried it myself, but Alex Smith the Mandalorian did it the one night he crashed in my hotel room.

Vodka = "costume spray". It's a theatre trick...you put cheap vodka in a spray bottle and soak the inside of costumes that can't be laundered otherwise, then leave them out to dry. Of course, the actors are typically wearing some sort of clothing underneath (leotard, tights, etc) that helps protect the costume, but it is invaluable for killing sweat bacteria and keeping some $10,000 velvet and brocade dress from getting completely funky when you're doing two or three shows a day.

Vodka is the only thing I use to clean my officer uniform. I don't trust a dry cleaner to not ruin/lose/destroy the thing. 8)

Glad to have someone with experience chime in on that. I thought it sounded iffy. I threw my officer uniform in the washing machine after wearing it for the first time last month. Like I said on Facebook earlier today, I got it for under $100 on the 501st forums, so I wasn't too worried about damaging it.
