Description of Event (Please share as much info as you can):
On Sat Dec 17 2016, the Carolina Garrison was dispatched to the Carmike 18 in Greensboro, NC. Acme comics invited the Garrison to join them to help make the Rogue One Greensboro celebration a unique experience. Acme comics gave out comicbooks, had an artist on hand to paint characters from the Star Wars movies, and had free Star Wars face painting. Acme comics had a toy and book donation drive for the Moses Cone children's hospital. If patrons brought in donations, their names were entered into a raffle for the paintings that the artist painted at the event. It was a successful toy drive. They received around 175 donations. Also at the event the Garrison had two special guests. Beth Pastros discovered two families in need through Facebook. A 10 year old boy whose family was homeless, but now lives in a motel was one of our guests. He is a huge Star Wars fan so we wanted to have him come to the theater and see Rogue One. His mother indicated he would be able to have a Christmas this year since the generous members of the Garrison and Acme Comics provided him with lots of wrapped presents. It was truly a moving experience. Our second guest was a 16 year old girl whose mother had recently lost her job. We also provided her tickets to enjoy Rogue One. Her mother had said she wouldn't have a Christmas this year. Again Carolina Garrison members poured out their hearts and provided gifts and a Walmart gift card for food. After the movie ended, management allowed the Garrison to visit with these families in the theater to provide the gifts and take pictures. This was truly a special part of the event and made me so proud of my Carolina Garrison brothers and sisters. When in costume, we stood in the lobby and outside the theater and greeted movie goers and posed for pictures. The management was also kind enough to allow any of the troopers to see Rogue One for free following the event. Rogue One celebration in Greensboro was a huge success and we hope to build on this next year.
