You said you had a photo example,and then I didn't see one and I thought I was missing something. Anyways,if I like the way it looks on your setup,I'll definitely give it a shot. Basically go to a hobby store and buy artist pastel chalk in the color scheme to match. In this case I would think greys and blacks. Next you take a razor and shave the chalk into powder form. From there you basically paint the chalk on with a brush wherever you want. You can control to process better like this and really get the colors you want in the creases and such. Takes a bit to get the hang of it but I love this method. I used it on my Fett and animated clone Tup. Here is a example of it on Tup. Keep in mind for this clone I was going for a animated look.
