Description of Event (Please share as much info as you can):
Murrayville Elementary school is using a Star Wars theme for their annual United Way campaign. Classes try to raise the most money to get a Star Wars party in December. They have asked if the local 501st would visit the school during dismissal to walk the bus and car pick-up lines to encourage students to gather donations. This was a last-minute request as the school did not know how to contact the 501st (now they do).
We visited every classroom in the school (700 kids) and encouraged them to give to the cause. Then we trooped the car pick-up lane as school got out.
We have been invited back on Dec. 12th for the Star Wars parties the top three classes get awarded for raising the most money. The lightsabers in the hallway indicate the level of fundraising.
The best part of today was that the visit was a total surprise to the students and the looks of shock and awe were fantastic! Even the teachers had no idea. The Vice Principal simply knocked and asked each classroom if a special announcement could be made, then we entered. The kids were floored (some literally). Lots of high-5's and cheers.
